       The Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for the follow-up, investigation, and preparation for prosecution of all major felony cases within the jurisdiction of the Martin Police Department. Investigators also act as court liaison officers. Reports typically investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division are:

  • Death Investigations
  • Aggravated Assaults
  • Robbery
  • Child Abuse
  • Sexual Assaults
  • Drug Investigations
  • Forgery and Fraud
  • Burglaries and Felony Thefts
  • All other crimes of serious or felony nature.

.      The Criminal Investigation Division is under the direction of  the Chief of Police.
       The Division is responsible for:

  • Follow-up investigation of felony offenses, including:
  • crime scene investigation.
  • interviewing witnesses and suspects.
  • conducting line-ups.
  • charging & booking offenders.
  • preparing detailed case files for grand jury presentation and court actions.
  • Communicating with other law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to exchange information pertinent to criminal activity.
  • Organizing and carrying out undercover drug operations.
  • Participating in "task force" operations with other local, state, and federal agencies which have resulted in the arrest and prosecution of numerous individuals in the area who were involved in extensive drug trafficking and other types of organized crime.

        The Martin Police Department Criminal Investigations Division retains active membership in the West Tennessee Criminal Investigators Association .
