Martin Police Department Dispatchers

The Communications Center is staffed by the Communications Division twenty-four hours a day,
seven days a week. The Communications Division is the first level of contact for the public and is
one of the busiest areas of the police department. The personnel assigned to this area are highly
trained individuals, required to have received their N.C.I.C. certification. The Communications
Division is responsible for all emergency and non-emergency communications for police, fire, and
emergency medical services (EMS). Any request for police, fire, and EMS from the public and
other criminal justice agencies are processed by the Communications Division. The division
prioritizes requests for service and then initiates the response of the appropriate personnel and
equipment. The division utilizes police and fire radios, paging systems, telephones,
telecommunications device for the deaf, teletype, facsimile, computers, and 911 telephones to
facilitate the exchange of information between the public’s requests for service and the
appropriate personnel.

The Communications Division is responsible for answering all 9-1-1 calls for the City of Martin.
 

Please be aware that the 911 system is for use only during an emergency. Should you require
police, fire, or ambulance for a non-emergency situation please call (731)587-5355.

Examples of a 9-1-1 call:
An accident with injuries.
A burglary in progress.
A choking child.

What information will a 9-1-1 operator ask me when I call?
Your name, address, and telephone number.
Is the crime in progress, just occurred, or delayed.
A description of the offender(s) and/or victim(s).
If anyone has a weapon, has been drinking, or possibly on drugs.

These questions are necessary for officer safety and to provide the best service we can for
you the citizen.

Examples of non-emergency calls:
A burglary that you came home and discovered.
A gas skip or general information questions pertaining to police matters.

Additionally the Martin Police Department provides services for the residents of the City of
Martin including a program to provide a “House Watch” by police officers for citizens on
vacation for no more than 3 weeks. If you would like to have your home placed on House Watch
